Great Cat, Opal Eyes

“I was a Great Cat, a Faithful Cat, a King who ruled my realm. I slept when I wanted to sleep, purred when I felt like it, ate fine food, and spoke well of everyone and everything. I remember. I trusted. Foolish me. All of a sudden out and alone me. Chased out, I think. Maybe just tossed out. Can’t remember, don’t want to remember. I am still me. I am still a Great Cat.”

“I remember that I was reduced to begging. Me – the Sphinx, the inscrutable one – reduced to begging for food – and for love. Look at me! See my fabulous eyes that sparkle like opals on a beach. Feel my soft black fur that I have always groomed so well. Such fine fur. How, oh, how, did I end up a beggar? Like the Raven, who was as black as I, I say, ‘Never more. Never more.’”

Sphinx II would like to trust again just one human. Perhaps there was a good reason my former human deserted me. I can’t imagine – abducted by aliens? Swallowed by a whale? Have you ever felt your life was just as it should be, going along quite well, and then, “Poof!” Your job was gone. Your wife was gone. Your castle turned into a pumpkin. Truth now – weren’t you scared?

I admit I’ve done some hissing around here. I deserve to hiss. I have a right to hiss. And I’m scared. I am still a Great Cat, born to rule a realm, born to be loved, born to get and give nice hugs. I am a Great Sphinx, Sphinx II am I, and unlike the original Sphinx, I still have my nose – and it is a fine nose – and a black nose.

“I do not care to beg, but I would like to beg just now for a Faithful home, loving people, good food, and a soft bed. I would like these things so that I may purr – and not hiss. I do not like to hiss. I truly don’t. It’s not what I was meant to do. Do you have $120? Please do bring it to these good people at Feline Rescue, and take me home. I deserve Home. I am a Great Cat.
