Angel Who Fell From Heaven

“Come sit and talk with me for a while. I am feeling like an angel who fell from heaven, all by accident, and crashed down into earth. Once, I had people and a home. I know this because I remember – and because I was spayed and declawed quite a while ago. I think I’m 3 or 4 years old. I’m white with a black head, black tail – a nice tail, too – and a good and mellow heart.”

“What happened? How did I crash from my little heaven into a hardscrabble corner where I was found eating bird seed to survive? Not birds, mind you – bird seed. And the birds were kind enough to share it with me. I do not know how this happened. I cannot remember. I do not want to remember, either. What I want is a new home, a warm home, with cat food, good people, and no more fear.”

“When my good Samaritan found me eating bird seed, she saw I had no claws and knew I couldn’t live outside. My troubles weren’t over. Not knowing I’d seen a vet before, she took me to a spay-neuter clinic where they discovered I’d been somewhere before – but not until after they snipped my ear to signify that I’m ‘fixed’. So, I became an angel with a tattered ear and got to feeling pretty battered – and sorry for myself.”

“Finally, finally, my rescuer got me to Feline Rescue. I was feeling pretty depressed – who wouldn’t after going from heaven to bird seed? I’m feeling pretty good now. Lots of friendly people here – lots of cats, too – not so fond of them. Good food, some love and attention. I think I’m perking up. Toys! Yes, I do like toys. How about those feathers? Yes, feathers! I know – they’re pink and my blankie is orange and not the best arrangement of color, but I’m Sweet Girl – and I mean it – Sweet. Also Good. Nice. “Very simple request: I’d like one or two big people – no small squeakers, please – someone with whom I can spend time, have thoughtful conversations, naps, perhaps a lap, and more cat food. I am an angel and a Sweet Girl – please bring $120 and take me back to heaven where I belong.”
