Likes People, Likes Upside Down

“Hello, hello! Want to play with a smart, fun calico girl cat who just loves people – but isn’t terribly fond of other cats? I’ve tried – I really have – to play with some sister felines, but we just don’t communicate. Now, people, that’s another story. I understand you! Stop by, and play with me!”

“My name is Madeline, slightly French, slightly sassy. I’m smart and alert. I study my space, and I miss nothing. I’m more interested in the little stuff – a crumb here, a feather there, a string, blanket fuzz – than I am in the meaning of the universe. I might make a good accountant – except that, if you say “spreadsheet” to me, I’m inclined to think ”shredsheet” and some claw-driven art.”

“You’ll notice that right-side-up is not my thing. Anybody can do that. I do upside-down, right-side-over, all tangled up and inside out. I assemble my Cat-Ness in ways you probably didn’t know were possible. I’m fun to watch, and, truth is, I’m angling for a little belly rubbing and cat cradling. I’ve heard people standing near me say, ‘Well, for goodness sake! Will you look at Miss Madeline! She looks as though she’s got six legs – and no head!”

“Play with me! Pet me! I’m looking for my people – I had some, but they couldn’t keep me – I’m looking for forever people – forever and a day people who like to play – and who like to watch me play with the fantasies in my own mind. Pet me, and I roll over with blissful approval. Then I do my purr-chortle, chortle-purr. That’s the sound of Happy Madeline, Happy Calico Woman.
