“Hello, I’m Licorice, and I guess my name tells you all you need to know about what color I am. I’m proud to be a black cat with big yellow eyes. I am Mama Lu’s son and Tux T.’s brother, and I’m slightly less scared than he, I guess, because I keep my eyes open, very open, and I haven’t hissed for several weeks.”
“Mama Lu is a brave pioneer woman. She raised her children alone, protected us from Minnesota winter and large dogs and raccoons and grasshoppers. She is still protecting me. From what? From anything that might “get” me. Are you a thing that might “get” me? You don’t look like you’re into “getting” nice, handsome young black cat fellows, but how can I be sure?”
“You are petting my soft black head; I like it. Pet Mama Lu, too. She likes it. People stop in and tell me I’m handsome. I want to believe it. I want to be loved and appreciated for all about me that is special. I am working on showing people – and I’m sure I’ll know my real people when you come – all my specialness.”
“I am also working on making weird faces. Actually, this does make sense. I can do some quite scary faces. Being scary-looking protects me. Now, I don’t mean dangerous-type scary. Nothing dangerous about me. I think there’s potential profit – yes, profit – in doing scary black cat faces. I could earn royalties on Hallowe’en décor. I could, maybe, even license my scary faces to Stephen King for the cover of his next book. That could be profitable, I’ll guess.”
“Oh, oh. I forgot to be scary and scared and started telling my secrets to a human. I guess my game is discovered. How about coming by Feline Rescue and petting my head? How about bringing $120 and adopting me – being my forever person(s)? How about bringing another $110 and adopting Mama Lu or Tux T. along with me? Or just bring a big bag of money – and take us all home! That would be good!”
PS: If you'd like to know more about me, just stop in at the Adoption Center to meet me or leave a message for my secretary at 651-642-5900 ext. 3. She'll call you back.
