Sleek, Shiny, All-Knowing Eyes

“I see you down there, person! I see you. I am Marlin, and I am staying up here where I am bigger than you, so you won’t see how shy I really am. Someday, I might like to come down and be friends – but today is not the day. I’m a young, sleek and shiny, black fellow with alert, all-knowing yellow eyes. And my alert, all-knowing eyes are watching you, person!”

“Like a few of the cats around me, I came here from a horror movie. We were all trapped in a foreclosed house with no food and no water. We did not know where the people went, but they were gone. Someone called the angels – at least I think that’s what they were. I insist that they had white wings, as white as I am black – and people feet. No, they weren’t pigeons. They came from Feline Rescue – that’s what the older cats said. And we were rescued.”

“Just because I’m rescued, and just because I’ve gotten some really excellent food here – and at the foster home where I stayed for a while, doesn’t mean I’m going to come flying down from my sacred perch. Not yet. Not now. But you may talk to me, and I will listen. I had a friend, Pele, who protected me when people showed up. But she charmed her way into a forever home. Now I’m thinking about trying that – but today is not the day.”

“You do sound like good people. You even sound like people who might actually like a sleek, shiny black cat with very alert eyes. You sound as though you might pet me and feed me and give me a good home and even some toys to play with. I wonder. I do wonder. But I like it up here. If you had a place at your home where I could perch and play owl, maybe I would go home with you. Maybe I would. If you have some soft beds, some toys, good food (and some of those scrumptious salmon treats my foster mom feeds me... is that asking too much?), then I'd like to come home with you! How about if you bring $120, and we’ll discuss the possibility. Marlin says, ‘Maybe even today!’”
