Dear You!

HI!!!!  I'm Humphrey!!!

[They know that, Humphrey.]

Oh.  Do they know about my toes?

[No, go ahead.]

'Kay.  My Foster Mom says I'm pretty special cuz I have lots of, um, toes, and none of the other kitties at my house have so many.  I've got thumbs on the fronts and thumbs on the backs of my feets.  Right at first, it didn't seem so great to be "special," cuz nobody wants to be different, you know.  But then I thought that probably quarterbacks and astronauts and summo wrestlers must have extra toes and I could be cool like them when I'm bigger.  I might be almost a year old already but I could still get bigger, couldn't I?

[Yes, Humphrey.]

I'd like to grow into my ears, too, cuz they look sorta sissy, with so much curly fur in the front and funny tufts sticking up in the back.  It's embarrassing.  Anyway, here's the thing about thumbs.  We have these slippery floors at my foster house?  And I can chase stuff and jump and spin and slide, and it's like being Jet-Propelled!!  I can launch like Superman, which is my favorite thing ever, especially now that I'm learning not to land on the other kitties.

Then after flying around, I like Lap Time.  A LOT.  That means rubbing and rolling and rumbling, which is what purring is like when it's LOUD, huh!?!

[Oh, yes.]

Lap Napping might be good too, but I don't often get Lap Naps cuz there's the other kitties and laps get busy, and that's a bummer.  But my foster mom says when I get my Very Own Purrrson, I'll have Somebuddy who'll have more time to play with me and let me rumble all I want afterwards!  That's right, isn't it?

[That's exactly right, Humphrey.]

So that's why I'm writing.  To get my Purrrson.  Am I done?

[Just about.  Remember the other reason that you're special?]

Oh, yeah.  It's cuz I passed the feline leukemia test, which seems kinda backward, but I guess that's the test everybuddy needs to fail.  Anyway, I got a "plus" so it's on my report card.  My foster mom says I'm as healthy as a summo wrestler (!!!) but I need to live with other kitties who passed the test too, or else be the Only Kitty for my Special Purrrson.  Mostly I need lots of good food and cuddling and a regular routine without too much stress.  That food part sounds good to me, but um, do I know what stress is?

[The important thing is that your Special Purrrson loves you a lot, Humphrey.  With lots of love, you'll grow and rumble for a long, long time.]

'Kay!  NOW I'm done!  And I'll be waiting for You!

Love,
Humphrey
