“Howdy, that’s what I say for now – howdy. I am certainly a dude with some Texas flair – might be named for Gilley's, the legendary honky-tonk – might not be. But I am Gilly, and I am a dude with fine jowls and prominent ear tufts. I’m sort of buff and sort of orange, and I think I’m about 2 – 4 years old. Old enough to stop hanging out in honky-tonks but plenty young enough to think I’d like to.”
“I’m quite a soft touch for an ex-tom cat. Pet me, pet me, I purr. Pet me more, I purr more. I’m a lover, not a brawler. Just a big guy lover looking for his forever and ever people. I had some people once; I know I did. I suppose they rode off into the sunset, maybe took up with some wild women, don’t know. But here I am – and here you are – and if you are looking for a mellow, squared-away dude, I am looking for you!”
“Gilly, did you just say ‘Arrgh!’ Arrgh! You did! You said ‘Arrgh!’ Make up your mind – are you a Texas honky-tonkin’ dude – or a pirate? You can be one or the other, but I don’t think there are many pirates in Dallas. ‘Arrgh!’ Oh, Gilly! We just had a cat named Pirate here – and even he didn’t say ‘Arrgh!’ But you do. Oh, Gilly!”
“Silly human – that’s not pirate talk. That’s my love call to the two cute women over on that shelf. ‘Arrgh, ladies, come join me for a few steps of Cotton-Eyed Joe.’ Didn’t I just tell you that I’m a big guy lover! No pirate stuff, just love and charm and – ok – a loud voice. Silly human, come pet me more, more, and more. Bring a comb or a Furminator if you’d like. I am Gilly, a good guy. A very good guy.”
“Tell you what – why don’t you adopt me, take me home, sit back and relax, and play us some honky-tonkin’ music? A little Hank Williams, a little Waylon Jennings. Serve up some tuna and deli chicken. Heavenly. I am Gilly – a dude with simple tastes. $120 plus the cost of the tuna and chicken. Arrgh!”
