“Hello, I guess. I am not a bouncy, pouncy, prancy cat. I am also not matronly. Motherly, yes I am. Pedro, over there, black and white like me, is my son. My girls, Checkers and Mittens, flirted up some humans and got themselves adopted. I’m not in the mood to flirt you up. I’d be delighted if you would pet me – see how soft I am. I put on some winter fur before I was rescued, along with the kids, so I’m warm – and highly pettable.”
“I’m simply not into gushing and begging. Life’s been single mom tough, and I’ve made it on my own, thus far. I kept five children alive and fed in the streets of Minneapolis. Now I’d really like to not be on my own. I’d really like a human servant or two – one that buys the food, serves it up, and calls me princess. It’s a lot of hard work to catch one’s own food. It doesn’t want to be caught, and it certainly doesn’t want to be eaten.”
“In my single mom tough life, I picked up the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Maybe from that one-night stand with the guy who fathered the kids. He’s long gone – not into parenting. Who knows? Pedro got it, too, but we are both excellent and healthy cats. We just don’t want to be “out there” any more. Who knows? I might even learn to play when I no longer have to spend all my energy to survive.”
“What? You’ve never met someone named Edna before? You know “Aunt Edna” – she’s a piano teacher and a lodge lady and doesn’t have children. I may be somebody’s aunt, but I am not an “Aunt Edna”. I am a mostly tuxedo lady. I have white feet, and I don’t do bazaars and rummage sales. I take care of myself. I took care of my children. I would like, for once in my life, to have someone who needs me who isn’t a black-and-white kitten. Someone with a lap. That would be nice!”
“Patient, kind, and loving – that would be you. Soft, kind, peaceful – that would be me. I’m ready to go home. I am Edna – just plain Edna. How about adopting me? $120 will do it. For $230, you could have Edna and Pedro, my playful boy child, come live with you. Please think about it, OK?”
