“Are you searching Feline Rescue to find the most wonderful, saintly, and just plain fun cat ever? That’s me! Richelieu, a fine black and white fellow with a neat goatee – hence the name! The original Cardinal Richelieu, otherwise known as Armand Jean du Plessis, cardinal-duc de Richelieu et de Fronsac had fourteen cats and loved them all. (It’s OK – you may call me Richie.) Back in 16th century France, he protected the Feline Nation from witch-hunting humans. So, yes, I am Richelieu – and, yes, I am a cat – a special and delightful cat.”
“Ah, you noticed that I’m exceptionally handsome – rather tuxedo-like – and rather large – and that I come bouncing toward you, intending to rub legs! Why bouncing? Notice again – I’ve only got three of those leg things! Lost a back one a while ago. I only miss it because it was a good friend – and a fine leg - and it was Mine! And also because it’s tricky to scratch the opposite ear! Other than that, I bounce with the best and sit in windows.”
“I just love it when people come into my space. I just love people! Notice my bright, intelligent eyes! Notice my very white, very clean, 3 remaining feet! Aw, heck, notice Me! The name’s Richelieu – did I mention that? I’m a player and a pouncer and an all-round good Cat Guy. I roll over, look up at you, and stick three legs up to the sky. Then I giggle and grab the feather toy. Then I chew it up! Whee! It’s Me! Ooops, doesn’t sound very Cardinal-like, does it? On the other hand, I do look good in red!”
“Let’s play! Let’s play and rumble! Toys! Toys! I may be saintly, but I do like toys. Love toys, love people. Have charm and character and no idea how I ended up at animal control. But my rescue angel came – I knew she would. Now all I need are my forever people – and you’re looking for me – I can feel it in the air. How about $120? Sorry – no discount for the missing leg…”
