“Hallooo! Hallooo! Walk through that front door, and you’re going to hear Huey. Huey has a message for you. The message is: I am here. I am a Cat. Notice me! Hallooo! Arooo! I’m a young white guy with some tabby patches and a serious tabby tail. I talk a lot because I have a lot to say. Am I running for office? Well, this is a good time of year for that, right? Why not? What should I run for? What’s my platform? Good Fresh Chicken in Every Cat’s Bowl. Good Big Bowls for Every Cat.”
“Huey is here because some kind person rescued me, rescued me from some kids who were abusing and tormenting me in a park. You know, you two-leggeds have a problem – always wanting to pick on somebody smaller than you. Pick on an innocent like Huey, and you’ll return in your next life as a mouse. A slow, stupid fat mouse. The Feline Nation will be waiting.”
“It wasn’t the kids who chewed up my neck; might have been a dog or a raccoon. I hate those things. I know, two-leggeds think they’re cute. Wrong. They bite. But I’m OK. I will heal. I will grow new fur, and I will be a handsome, poised fellow. I sure would like to have a home of my own with people who love me where I can run free and look out the windows and, occasionally, especially at the equinoxes, howl a little at the moon. We Cats honor the moon. It watches over us.”
“I guess I’ve got some street smarts now, and I would, having earned them, like to live indoors – in your house or apartment – where I don’t have to use the street smarts any more. There’s a guy in the rear suite named Dewey who said I should make sure to tell you that I’m not a duck. He said he hasn’t seen Louie yet, but we need to make it clear that our names don’t mean we’re ducks. Got that? No big orange beaks. No webbed feet.
“C’mon, walk in the front door at Feline Rescue and hear the goodhearted, worldly-wise young Huey sing his love call to you. I’m not real fond of other cats, but I’m fond of good, loving two-leggeds. $120 sends me home with you, to be safe and sound forever – and ever.”
