Picture me, your tortie girl, in a 1910 parlor perched daintily on a Victorian chair with a fine needlepoint seat. Behind me is a velvet drape that matches perfectly the beige highlights of my tortie coat. All I really need is a small paper fan, black with violets on it, to show you who I am. I am, in case you can’t see my pose, a young, quiet, mellow girl, a well-bred lady who never howls and seldom sings – but who will softly, gently, kindly nuzzle your hands with my bright, alert face.

I am Violette. I am not sure where I was before I came here, but I wasn’t there long because I’m less than a year old now. I came here to find you; that’s the whole simple story. I knew, somehow, that here is where you would look for me, and here is where I would find you. I am quiet – but I am interesting, so I’ve heard. Still waters run deep, I’m told. When I am still, I am thinking many wondrous cat thoughts. I think I might share them with you. Would you like to pet my angel fur? I think I will purr for you. I think I will roll over, put my fine tortie paws in the air, and suggest that you might even give me a little tickle! OK – that’s all I needed.

Actually, it’s not. I need a home. I need a home with you, with love, with soft afternoon light that shows off my many colors. I need a home with a parlor chair for my afternoon perch. I will do my very best to remember that my claws should stay out of it. Love me. Do love me. Take me home. Please. The food here is fine – but, downstairs, there’s a sassy teenager who keeps poking her paws up at me. I don’t think she’s very ladylike, do you? How about $100 to Feline Rescue so the excellent food will be here for others? But for me, Violette, excellent food at your place from now on – please.
