Yes, I am the cat whose face emerges from black shirts and sweaters worn by humans. You see the human from the back and you think, "OK - black T-shirt." Then the human turns toward you, and my eyes appear and a hint of my ears and whiskers. I am that cat. The blackest of night - except for little gray fluffs behind my ears - they might be - you know - sun bleached.
So I am Neptune, god of the deepest ocean, friend to squid and swordfish, whales and crabs. I am here because I lost my trident. Can't be much of a god without my trident, so Aphrodite said, "Listen, I'll turn you into a cat and you go over to Feline Rescue. I think they've got your trident." I think she lied. I have not found my trident. I found a cool peacock feather and a grubby but delicious old sock full of catnip and some spotted mice and some other cats - but no trident.
I think I'd like to just continue as a cat. Pretty nice life - food is good, people are wonderful - not slimy like squid and octopus. Yes, they were friends but they were slimy. My catness: I really like people. I'm a mellow guy, like to sit with people, maybe even on them. I like other cats. Seem to be a couple of dudes and one gal here who aren't super fond of me. Why not, I wonder. I'm sweet and gentle and almost poetic. How could anyone not like me? I like me.
I'll tell you, though, one thing I really don't like. No, not dogs. Dogs are fine. Ugly - but fine. I really don't like static. As in, "Please, please, put a little unscented, non-toxic lotion on your hands before you pet me with them! I am not a Science Fair electricity experiment. I am Your Cat!" Did you hear that? Your Cat. As in, "Bring just $100 over here and claim your prize - Me! Neptune! Formerly god of the deepest ocean. Now, Your Cat!" (Although, if you should happen to have a nice trident, I'd play with it.)
PS: I currently reside at THE SHELTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about me, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
