You don't have to be a Republican to love this Newt. What Republican Newt and I have is common is really good grey hair. I do admire the fellow for that. We fellows with good grey fur will stick up for each other. But this Newt here doesn't do politics. I happily leave all political, ideological, even philosophical pursuits to the big guy next door with the gift for oratory. My gift is for gentle loving of people. I am big enough that you'll know you're being loved - but not so big that you'll need a doctor if I step on your foot.

And I might step on your foot while working my way up to your lap - which seems to me to be a very good idea right now. I think you like a nice, well-mannered , squared-away, self-assured, never pushy, never pushed, grey and great cat gentleman in your lap. You do! I might almost get excited about this connection. Want to take me home and work on it? Sounds good to me. Actually, it sounds just great to me. I stand tall. Newt is young, only a few years old, but he's a quick study. He knows much. He knows himself.

"Uh, oh - I knocked that jingle ball right down that hole. Do I have to go down there and get it? If I call it, will it come back up here to me?" It won't? But I will come if you call me - because I'd like to be with you. How about it? I'm a lover and a friend - that's what I am. I'm also, of course, a Cat.
"Do I eat newspapers? I don't know - what's a newspaper?" The reporter says she has a cat who looks like me who eats newspapers. "Hmmm. What does a newspaper taste like? Chicken? I could do that." I tell you what, human people person, how about you adopt me, take me home, let me sit in your lap and relax? Bring me a little chicken and a jingle ball. Bring Feline Rescue a solid $100. As for newspaper, I don't know about that. If the Politician next door gets himself on the front page, maybe I'll give it a taste. For now, $100 and some chicken will be fine for this fine Newt. He says so. It's true.

PS: I currently reside at THE SHELTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about me, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
