“Oh! Pardon us. We are just waking up. Please give us a minute to wash our faces and get dressed! We’d love to talk to you!” We are the dearest, cutest little calico sisters you’ve ever met – just past kitten into tweenage, not even old enough to vote.
“Deb, my dear, do comb your hair – you’ve got Bed Head! Don’t you want to be just precious and perfect when you greet the humans?”
“Darcy, dear twin, your fine calico hair looks a bit as though you may have slept in the munchies bowl yourself, so don’t fuss.”
OK! Here we are! We are truly pleased to meet you. We’ve only recently discovered that people are wonderful – really wonderful. People talk to us and give us munchies and bring us tuna – and look at these colorful blankies we now have. We’ve learned a really special thing: we shake people fingers. Here – give Deb your hand.
“See? She puts both paws around your finger, shakes it, and says ‘How do you do?’ Now, I’ll do it! Are we sweet or are we sweet? Who would want to shake with a scruffy old puppy when Darcy & Deb are playing with you?”
We think we might be orphans. All we know is that we joined up with some older cats who said, “Follow us – we know where there’s food.” They said they were “the lost colony” – that some guy named Walter Raleigh left them here a long time ago. Deb says they were funning us. I say maybe it’s true.
Then we heard that, perhaps, if we could get ourselves to Feline Rescue, we might solve the mystery of our great-great-grand Aunt Maude who, it is said, disappeared in Frogtown. She’s the only family we ever heard about. So here we are, discovering how much fun people are. Darcy studies the world and keeps her mouth shut. I, Deb, much prefer to talk and express my curiosity. She has the really orange ears; I have discreet grey ones, the color of an old Quaker bonnet.
We’ve not found great-great-grand Aunt Maude, but we think we might have smelled her the other day. It’s OK because what we most want, now that we’ve figured it out, is Our Very Own People! People! Yes – people who just love calico tweenagers, people who don’t mind if we wake up with Bed Heads now and then, people who will play with us and appreciate our Girl Power. Please, may we shake your fingers? Please, may we go home with you? Two great sisters, all yours, for just $200. We are Deb & Darcy – and we love you!
PS: We currently reside at THE ADOPTION CENTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about us, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
