Sut mae?   Samhain Mabinogi ydw i.   In case you’re not Welsh, that’s “Hi! My name is Samhain Mabinogi”.   My good friends call me Nogi. My soul proudly recalls the early days of Wales when bards told the Mabinogi tales.   King Arthur, whom the English so rudely claim as theirs, passes through my stories.   And Samhain, of course, that’s November 1, the beginning of fall in Celtic lore – perfect name for a magnificent black cat, don’t you think?  

 

We Celts much prefer our right brains to our lefts.   We sing, we dance, and we love color; we seldom analyze anything unless it’s really necessary.   In case you haven’t heard, I’m a pretty famous artist at Feline Rescue. When I was here as a young man four years ago, I created a work for the silent auction. A couple of Welsh women took to bidding for it, and I garnered big bucks for my work. I hear Sotheby’s is waiting for my next piece.
 

My earthly self loves to play with toys.   Yes, I took the feather thing and drummed it on my water dish - whee! The joy of dancing toward a feather toy or a fat mouse on a string inspires me. Then I must paint. Sometimes I sing, “Chrrupp, chrrupp, chrrnwy, chrru,” as I dance and paint.  

 

In my work commissioned for the Grand Opening of the then-new Feline Rescue Shelter, I sought to incorporate the bright colors of the space with the many soft colors of the ever-changing residents.   Of course, I also added a patch or two of strong red-orange to depict the Red Dragon of Wales. I even remember Merlin (we Welsh call him Myrddin), and I’ve a touch of his magic. You’ll be amazed – and amused.

 

In other words, I am a totally fabulous, mysteriously powerful, rather large and totally handsome black cat. Fellows like me don’t just show up every day. They even say that, somewhere in Wales, there is an ancient stone statue of a cat. It’s true – and that cat is me, Samhain Mabinogi. Who else would it be?

 

I like purring and nuzzling and flinging of toys. I bring magic into your world. Don’t worry if you hear growly sounds when I talk. I’m not mad; that’s just Welsh.   I’d love to be your black cat – or red dragon – but don’t even think of calling me Puff. Samhain Mabinogi ydw i!   Nogi to my friends.
