Like my sister Karma, with whom I came to Feline Rescue, I am more eastern than western. I am also my own cat. I like being Panda, but I suppose I need to tell you that, if I am bear-like, I am more koala than panda. I am grey, with some decorative striping, not black and white. I’m about koala-size, too. Certainly not panda size. Oh, my!
So how can a person tell that I am not really either type of bear, but rather, a cat who wears my own kind of hat? Folks, it’s simple. Pandas eat bamboo. Remember the best-selling book “Eats, Shoots, and Leaves”? That was, you know, about pandas….And koalas? They eat eucalyptus. I can barely (pun intended) spell eucalyptus, and I do not want to eat it. I want to eat tuna and chicken and salmon and specially-formulated organic cat crunchies. I am a cat who wears my own kind of hat.
I am soft and round all over. My face is especially small and round, very round. I talk in small round lady “chirrups”, not noisy angular “meows”. I do wear white eyeliner to show off my very green eyes. I enjoy cubby holes into which I can pack my soft, round self and feel cozy and warm and safe. When I first came here, I was very shy. Not so much shy as just worried that a human could step on me. A lot more humans here than I was used to at my foster home.
And a lot more cats, too – all wearing their own kinds of hats. I’ll tell you, though, what I learned from them. I learned that all these people scurrying around do not want to step on me. They want to bring me food and pet me and feel how soft I am – and even change my litter box. Wow! That’s good people!
I, Panda Koala Mercy Jane McElroy Smith, want my very own people forever and ever. What? Oh, I just like to play with names. And hats. I am sweet and gentle and kind, and I am not a bear. Come, bring your $100 for my room and board, and then – sing with me:
“Cowboys and outlaws, right guys and southpaws,
Good dogs and all kinds of cats.
Dirt roads and white lines and all kinds of stop signs,
But I stand right here where I'm at,
'Cause I wear My Own Kind Of Hat.”
PS: I currently reside at THE ADOPTION CENTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about me, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
