“Good morning. I am Viola. How do you do?” Yes, I am a lady – sometimes, I think I may be the last of the real ladies. I extend my white-gloved hand to you. Ladies simply do not go out and about without their gloves and their hats. It is just not done. I purr and smile to you serenely and quietly because that is what ladies do when they are wearing their gloves and their hats.
I am a fine calico lady – full orange, full black, and, of course, long white gloves and long white stockings, too. I am much more the flower – Vy-ola – with multi-colors in my face – than the instrument – Vee-ola, although I do have a bit of the melancholy that the instrument can convey. Oh, dear – do not misunderstand. I am not sad. I am not unhappy. I am me. But I do remember that I was outside, all alone, and it was cold, and I was scared. A lady should not have such an experience. Someone fed me and brought me here. I am safe now, but I have not forgotten.
I sit with utmost dignity. I purr to you, and you may caress my neck and gently stroke my back. I meditate simply. I reach sacred insights, and I have secrets that I prefer to keep. I would, however, most prefer to share myself with you – a good human or two who appreciate the warm quiet of a lady who probably should have been born in 1907 instead of 2007. Still, I am here, and I am a fine lady.
This fine flower of a fine lady shines her round face toward you. She sends to you her utmost thought – that you will take her fine, well-marked calico self to your fine, not necessarily calico, home where she will be warm and safe and loved, loved, and loved. You will do well to do so. I will do well, very well, thank you, if you do so. Would you be so kind as to bring $100 to this boarding house and take me with you? I am keeping my gloves and stockings very clean and white until you do. I am Viola – Miss Lady Viola.
PS: I currently reside at THE ADOPTION CENTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about me, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
