“Hello, good human! I am Ballou. I am small, gentle, sweeter than honey, and I’ve come all the way from northern Minnesota just to find You! My person, my people, my partners in the good, gentle, soft life that I am going to have. Very soon now.”
Right away, of course, you’ve noticed that I’m exotic – meaning that I’m not just your everyday garden variety sweet, loving girl cat. I am that, true – sweet and loving, I mean. But try to tell your friends and relatives, after you take me home, about the color of your new feline soulmate. Is she beige? Brown? Lavender? Peach? Mauve? Sand? All I can tell you, for sure, is that I’m not green or purple. I’m Ballou. I’m downright interesting. Don’t you agree?
So, I was exotic and fascinating to see before I got a bit of frostbite on my ears. Now they’re smaller and rounder than they used to be. I told the cat downstairs that I was a marmot. She said, “No you’re not. You’re a cat, just like me. See? My ears are rounded off, too. And you’re much too sweetie pie to be a marmot.”
“Well, she’s right. Marmots don’t purr – at least I don’t think so. And I certainly purr. I’d just about rather purr than anything else – except grab that dangly toy you’ve got. Please? Please? Mine?”
“I think I’ll tell my secret. Ballou was raised by turtles. Really. Turtles taught me peacefulness – and that there is no reason to rush about for the sake of rushing about. They taught me stillness and calm self-assurance. Turtles did not teach me to purr or to eat munchies. I taught me these important cat things.”
May I bring my pastel rainbow self into your life? May I teach you the peacefulness of turtles and the playfulness of sweet cat girls? Look at me, pet me, talk to me. I am Ballou. Please, too, if you would bring $100 so I may come home with you. I’d like to do that.
PS: I currently reside at THE ADOPTION CENTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about me, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
