Yoga Master

“Greetings, grasshoppers. I am your yoga instructor for today, and I will begin with my most mellow meditation to put you in the mood.”

I am as black as a black cat gets. I am shiny and most indeed calm. I am in tune with the universe and, therefore, in tune with people who are, after all, part of the universe. Step here by my space and tune into me. Pet my long sleek back. See how finely limber I am? I do for you the downward dog. I do for you the upward cat. I do for you the forward turtle – and see if I may sneak onto your shoulder. I do for you the sideways turtle; I use this box for my shell. I sidle. Now, listen, you must admit I’m different. Also interesting. Also a very black guy cat of uncertain but clearly young age.  

“What? You think Eddie is a strange name for a yoga instructor? What would you prefer? Earl? Fritz? Johann? Ludwig? Ursula? Yogi?”

“I knew it. Yogi. Yogi, indeed. A baseball player. A Bear. Not me. Oh, I’ll knock this sparkly ball around – but I’m not going to catch it. Don’t do catching. Do chasing. Do knocking. Do rolling over on my back, stretching waaay out, and sticking all my legs up. This is called the Wrong Side Up Cat! And it’s cute. Very cute.”

Let’s talk some serious business. You need a yoga instructor. I’m an excellent yoga instructor. You want to limber up and mellow out. I can do that for you – and for me. I need a home – a real home. Also real food. And a soft bed that matches my yoga mat. We could, as they say, exchange a little mutual benefit here. How about it? Feline Rescue gets $120. I get a soft bed, food, and people love. You get cat love and limber limbs. Here’s how good that sounds to me: I’ll call myself Fred if you really insist.  Fred. Fred. Eddie.
