Folks, if Merle Haggard was going to do a song about a Cat, I would be the Cat about which he would do it. I’m a goodoleboy – and proud of it! Somebody stopped by here the other day and said, “That cat looks like one of Garrison Keillor’s Norwegian Bachelor Farmers.” Wrong! The name is Herman – as in Herman the German – have you been to New Ulm or not? So, OK, I might be a German Bachelor Farmer, but not Norwegian. If I were Norwegian, I’d be Hjalmar. But I’m Herman – and proud of it!

We goodoleboys are simple, good-hearted, and relaxed. There’s nothing I’d like better than to kick off my boots, lie back, sit in your lap, and purr. ‘Course, you’ve got to pet me, fluff my black-and-white fur a bit, and talk to me, “Herman, Herman, so pleased you stopped by – want to go home with me? What a fella you are!”

I need to do a bit of patrolling around here. Place needs to be patrolled. Could be ruffians hiding in the nooks, crannies, and boxes. As I do my patrol, you’ll notice that I’m solid, stocky, articulate, and always ride a large mule. “No, wait, never mind the mule stuff….wrong guy. But I am solid, stocky, articulate.” A farmer sheriff on patrol – me – Herman the maybe German.

I’m not really all that old – just in the prime of my nine lives. It’s just that we goodoleboys live hard and get used. Still, just like the sporting women we may have known, we have hearts of gold and honey. Herman doesn’t care if you’re German or Norwegian or interplanetary. He cares that you love him and his relaxed and simple ways. He cares that you’ve got nooks, crannies, and boxes that need patrol. He cares that you know how to pet a goodoleboy sitting in your lap. Oh, and food. He cares about food.

So, folks, come on over to the ranch, kick off your boots, and sit down with Herman. You’ll be glad you did, and you’ll bring along $100 and a ball of chewing twine. We’ll ride off home – into the sunset. Let’s get going!

PS: I currently reside at THE ADOPTION CENTER (not in foster care). If you can't stop in but would like to know more about me, please call 651-642-5900, ext.3. Thanks!
