Sleek Lady in Waiting

“Good evening. I am Nadia, your lovely grey lady, friend to all and mother of many. But no more. Still lovely, still a friend, but I have given up motherhood and tom cats. Especially tom cats. Did you know they cause motherhood? Well, they do, and, then, they run off to some new neighborhood and leave a lovely girl like me all alone with kittens to raise. I have been there. I have done that. Please talk to me about a new, new life!”

Talk to me about how beautiful I am. Solid grey, sleek, still with girlish figure – thank you. OK, talk to me about my ears. Let me tell you about these ears. They are tall and wide, and, when no humans are looking, I wiggle them. Great-great grand cousin Bobbish taught me to do that. Honest. Now I’ve signed on with SETI – Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence – and I listen with my exceptional ears.

“So far I’ve not picked up anything either Intelligent or Extra-Terrestrial – just a bunch of terrestrial felines who aren’t, in my opinion, at all intelligent. Noisy, yes, but not intelligent. And some of them could be, probably are, tom cats. I do not care for other cats. I do not like thee. I have walked the streets and raised the children – and, sister and brother cats, I do not like thee.”

Nadia is well-balanced and quite fond of people. She purrs. She rolls over and offers her “Come hither” stare with clear yellow eyes. She says she’d do well as a lady-in-waiting to the French queen. “France doesn’t have a Queen any more? Somebody chopped off her head? That wasn’t nice! Not at all! Oh, my.”

Nadia says she’d do well as your lady-in-waiting. Also as your lady-in-lap and lady-in-kitchen and grey lady perched on settee with a soft smile, a sweet purr, and never, never, ever so much as one munchie crumb on her lovely chin. The lovely Nadia is waiting – and listening with her ears. She is listening for the sound of intelligent human life with $100 in hand to take her home to her new, new life.
