“Oooh, hurray! I see a person! I greet you! I skip across the room to greet you. Hurray! Hurrah! A people to play with. I rub legs. I make small burbly sounds. I am Skipper. I am a happy guy. I like you.”
The first thing the person sees is a moving package of well-crafted black spots, occasional stripes, all on a grey heather background. Skipper is as grey tabby as a grey tabby gets. When he finally skips back across the room, showing off how amusing he is, the person notices, “Oh, my – this fellow is missing a few parts! No tail – no tail at all! And only three legs – two in back, one in front – a tricycle cat! My, my!”
“What? No, I am not an incomplete cat. I am quite complete, and I am having a good time. I recall that I was at Feline Rescue once before – that I was rescued – but that one leg was beyond hope. We got rid of it. I was adopted. Some years went by. My family had to move without me.”
“The tail? I’m not sure. Maybe I never had one. Maybe I lost it. Want to help me look for it? Want to stop at the fur salon and get me some extensions? Yes, I love having fun with you.”
“Serious: Back when I was out there running around, I had a spat with some old cat who left me with the FIV. I’m a healthy fellow – anybody who moves this fast on three legs is pretty darn healthy. But I shouldn’t live with cats who don’t have FIV – which is why I’m living here with these hooligans. Honest: I rather like them. They play with me; they’ll play with you. Hey guys, come on out and skip with this person – maybe she’ll adopt me – I mean – us.”
“Notice my handsome, actually quite stunning, spots. Notice my cheerful personality. Oh, just notice Me! Skipper! A complete cat. A fun cat. Cat who will make you laugh. Laughter is the best medicine, you know. You find this tricycle ocelot irresistible. You know you do. How about $100 to cover my wear and tear on the floors here? Take me home. Hurray! I’m Skipper!”
