A Very Perfect Tabby - and One White Foot

“Do you hear something? Do you hear someone talking to you? That would be me – the name is Simon. I’m not British, and I won’t insult you. I do want to have a conversation with you; I do like to talk. I talk. I talk. And, OK, I think pretty highly of myself. But you would, too, if you were a most perfect tabby fellow. Not just any old tabby – a perfect tabby with striking green eyes in a warm brown face.”

“I’m only about a year old, and I am anxious to come out and run and play and take over your home, make it mine, make you mine, make everything mine. I’m strong but compact. A solid cat, as they say. And I am a cat. A most perfect tabby with my signature mark – one white foot – so you know it’s me – Simon – and not some imposter, a phony. The real me – Simon. Arahh!”

“I’m serious about this conversation! Notice that I’ve stuck my paws out in your direction. The better with which to capture you, persuade you to take me home, become the person of Simon the Tabby Cat – the very Tabby Cat. I did tell you about the green eyes, didn’t I? Pay attention – Simon has great green eyes!”

“I talked to this orange fellow next door before you arrived. I said, ‘You know, guy, we could escape and make a run for it – why stay here?’

“And he said, ‘Because, you goofbird, we have food, we have heat, we have friends, and we are going to get fantastic forever homes if we just sit here nicely like the handsome young men that we are. Have you forgotten what it was like out there – cold, snow, buses, pit bulls, and stale pizza for food?’”

“You know what? He’s absolutely right. I am a bit impulsive. But I’m charming, charismatic, and also a hoot. Bring $120, adopt me, take me to my fantastic forever home, and be assured of great conversations for years to come. I’m Simon, and I’m pretty much perfect. Arahh!
