“Hello! Please be nice to me. Sit down and talk quietly. Pet my head. I hope I’m not too direct! I know you think I’m shy, but I’m not so much shy as I am embarrassed about what happened to my once glorious fur. I really am a handsome tuxedo guy. I once had a home and a great coat to go with my very black nose. The people left. The home was gone.
“I joined other homeless cats at a feeding station. I was grateful for the food. But I didn’t have much time to get to the grooming salon or even a barber shop. So, Feline Rescue’s great people fixed me up, but I’m waiting for the Real Me to grow back out. In the meantime, please be nice to me. Appreciate my very yellow eyes and my kind heart.
“I am Gabriel because I’m rather angelic – and because those yellow eyes glow like two halos. Sad to say that somewhere in my travels it appears I lost my trumpet, but you probably don’t want an angelic cat playing a trumpet all night, do you? Walls could come tumbling down….Sad also to say that some unpleasant beast waylaid me and left me with the FIV, so I’ll be staying indoors and taking care of myself from now on. I could use your help with that.”
“I’d like to be nice to you! I’m simply a nice cat. A good cat. I’m going to be the glory of my former self when my full tuxedo reappears. It will. See my little white feet; I keep them very white. I can do that. Something else special about me – I really like classical music. When my tux returns from the cleaners, perhaps I shall conduct an orchestra. My roomies here only like the percussion parts, but I prefer the melody and themes of a good symphony. Do you have a bit of Mozart or Haydn in your iPod? Could I borrow it?”
“I have a better idea. Why don’t you adopt me? Adopt Gabriel who is growing himself back into a fine and shiny cat. Bring $120 over here, and adopt Gabriel. I am kind. I can purr. I promise to glow angelically – and to not replace the trumpet. Pet my head if you would.”
