“Arroww! Ayahh! I am Belafonte. I am young and sleek and very black. I sing. I orate. I preach. Is the pastor at your church a bit boring? Hire me – I’m lots of things, but I’m not boring. Do I talk a lot? You bet! Awaahh! I have a lot to say, and I’m going to say it now! Weoow!”
“Awaah? I like people. I love people. I will follow you and sit on your feet and drink your coffee. Ha! Maybe even your wine! I like food. I like myself. I pretty much like everything and everybody. But – you knew there was a ‘but” – a lot of other cats don’t like me very much. I say I’m too smart for them, too sleek and handsome for them. They say, “We’re intimidated.”
I say, “Adopt me. I will be your only cat. You will be my only people. And you know who will “own” who, don’t you? I’m delightfully affectionate, when I stop moving – which I don’t do very often. Arooh! Pet my sleek oh-so-shiny head. Araaw!”
I’m a good fellow. I do like the sound of my own voice. I have some oriental shorthair ancestors somewhere. Where do you think I got this voice? And this quick mind? And strong body? I’m so sleek, my fur so short that it looks as if it’s painted on me. Hey! It’s a cat suit! On a cat! Ayahh!
“Nuh, nuh! Don’t even think about bananas! Don’t even think about singing about bananas! I know: ‘Day-o, day-ay-ay-o, Daylight come and he wan' go home, Day, he say day, he say day, he say day, he say day, he say day-ay-ay-o, Daylight come and he wan' go home.’ I know Harry Belafonte sang it. I know I sing a lot – but not about bananas and tarantulas. Nuh! Nuh!”
There’s one bit of truth in there, though. I do “wan' go home.” I sing. I jump. High. I play. I have a really big personality. So, if “Yes, you have no bananas” - and no tarantulas, this handsome young man is your guy. Cool. $120 takes me home with you! Arraahh! I “wan' go home.” Now! Meow! Araah!
If you'd like to know more about me, just stop in at the Adoption Center to meet me or leave a message for my secretary at 651-642-5900 ext. 3. She'll call you back.
