“Hello. How do you do? My name is Racy. I am a gentle torbie – a cross between a tabby and a tortie – and I am a lady. A cross between a tabby and a tortie is simply a wonderful cat with so many colors in her coat that she needs two words to describe herself. Dolly Parton wrote a song about a Coat of Many Colors – might have been mine!”
“Let the light shine down on me. See that my fur has flames – not orange, not beige – glowing, living red-orange. Come winter, you’ll feel warm just looking at me. Pet me – do I have the softest fur? I know I have the most interesting fur. Study my colors. Meditate. Reach higher states of mind.”
“I am a gentle lady. I have walked into your life from a 19th century portrait. I am the cat of folk art who sat quietly in the young woman’s lap when she had her portrait painted. I spent a lot of time sitting in laps, on windowsills watching hollyhocks in the breeze, and hoping for the day the blue jay would come too close, and I would grab him. Never did.”
“I am a quiet lady. When I was not in someone’s lap or watching out the window, I would pose serenely on the antimacassar atop the back of the big chair. Yes, some of us cats know words like antimacassar. It was a dainty doily to keep the chair clean. I sat on them. It’s what cats did back then.”
“Today, I am here – at Feline Rescue – awaiting my 21st century people. I know you are looking for me. I can feel you looking. You are seeking a mellow, friendly torbie lady who likes laps and hollyhocks and doesn’t tear about and shred things. Not even antimacassars. I like to sit and think. When I am sitting, I am thinking. I send good thoughts about the room.”
Might I interest you in a cup of tea and a lovely lady with fascinating many-colored fur? I will join you and go home if you will come to meet me and bring your $120. That’s for the tea, you understand. I am Racy, and I am waiting.
PS: If you'd like to know more about me, just stop in at the Adoption Center to meet me or leave a message for my secretary at 651-642-5900 ext. 3. She'll call you back.
