I Run, I Prance, Especially I Dance

“There’s just no other way to say it: I am beautiful – dark smoky face with deep gold eyes and a sensuous tail that sways like pampas grass in an Argentine breeze. Believe it! I am Rambling Rose, so named, I think, because my case notes say I was “stray” – that’s a rude word for rambling. Hmph! Listen, Nat King Cole sang about me. Someone made a movie, “Rambling Rose”. I am not your ordinary cat. No.”

“I am beautiful – well, I am. I am smart and charming and without claws, so I won’t be sailing up your drapes, even if I might want to. Which I might. I have a performance planned for you. But, first, I need to inspect carefully the construction of this place. “Ah, air returns – I smell cat in there….oh, oh. And a floor drain – what’s that for? And, yes, I smell more cat. Is this door frame true?”

“Yeow! I don’t just smell cat – I see cat! Right there – behind the glass in the door! A cat! A cat! What do you mean ‘I’m a cat, too’? Of course I’m a cat, but that doesn’t mean…oh, never mind. Watch this!”

“I run, I prance. Especially I dance! Across the room and back, Rose does her dance. She strikes a Hallowe’en cat pose, all fierce and full of tail. She bounces. And bounces again. Yeow! Another big cat dude, even blacker than the other one. He yowled at me. Oh, no! I do my Hallowe’en dance again.”

“I like people. People are entertaining and amusing. Amuse me, person! I am Rambling Rose, but I will ramble no more if you’ll take me home. I’ll perform for you, do my Hallowe’en dance, even on the 4^th of July or Washington’s Birthday. Did I mention that I’m as soft as I am beautiful? I shall do now my most flirtatious roll upon this blanket. Are you charmed? Of course you’re charmed. Just hand your $120 to one of the friendly volunteers, and they will let me leave with you. I would be very happy. Sorry big black yowling dudes, you’re just not my type. Bye!
