Walking Work of Art, Also a Gentleman

“Greetings and good cheer, too! Two of the most intelligent and alert eyes on this planet are watching you, with the hope that you might be bringing something good to eat. Even if you’re not, I’m watching you, anyway, because I am Hershey and it’s what I do. I am a guy’s guy, a prince’s prince, and a thorough, self-managed executive with both decision and determination – and a very expressive face. How’s that for an opening statement?”

“Here’s the really good stuff: You have never seen stripes like mine before, and you never will again – unless, of course, you invite me into your family. Then, you’ll be able to see me every day and every night and be totally amazed by the masterpiece that is me, Hershey. I don’t just have stripes or even designer stripes. I have royal stripes, such as created by a true master, perhaps da Vinci or Michelangelo. Notice how they roll together across my head, then undulate firmly down my back.”

“I have seen myself in windows and pools often enough to know that pictures cannot do my design justice. Even if you are absolutely certain that you do not want to adopt a four-legged executive, come see me anyhow. It will be a visit to the art institute, to a gallery. I am, indeed, walking art. I am.”

“I walk across a room with purpose and direction. I miss nothing. I make good decisions. I see the orange dude with his catnip banana. I could take it from him in a trice, but I won’t. I am a gentleman. I simply touch his nose with mine and walk away. He knows I can.”

“So it says there on the wall that I’m about a year old – and that I somehow ended up at animal control. Hah! They may control animals, but they do not control Hershey. Hershey controls – and patrols – the world. He is fine and strong, and you may carry him and talk to him, and he will like it. How about this? Come over and admire the art that is me. But bring $120 with you because I am wise and handsome art, and you will want to take me home.”
