“Are you waking me up from my mid-afternoon nap? Do you have a really good reason for waking me up? Like you think I’m just so adorable that you just have to see me stretch and yawn and become ever more adorable? OK! I am adorable! A soft orange fellow, more orange than tabby, although there are stripes on me. Stripes. Strettcchh! Yawn!! OK, Walt is awake now. What would you like to know?”

“I’m sweet and gentle, very laid-back. I’m also quite dignified and quiet. I’m young enough to be a wild snipe, but I prefer to be a well-turned, polite fellow who just loves to be loved. I put my head in your hand and use you for my pillow. Walt was born outdoors and cared for by two sisters who taught me that people are my friends. Outdoors was a scary place. Walt prefers indoors. Walt prefers pillows, warm, hand-sized human pillows.”

“I’m quite a soulful, spiritual fellow. I thought about growing up to be a preacher, minister, pastor fellow. But I just couldn’t get into giving sermons. I’m quiet, don’t like standing up in front of a bunch of folks and carrying on. I can do the laying on of paws – not sure how healing I am, but people like it. So I curl up on my back and connect with the great beyond. And I nap.”

“I like good food, good people, warm space, some toys, and my own blankie. One and only one request: please, no more pink blankies. Pink does not look good with my true orange-ness. It does not. How about sky blue or deep blue or even purple? But not pink – makes me look like a clown. Not a clown. I am Walt, not Walter, and not Sir Walter, just Walt.”

“Do you have $120? You could use it to take me home. I’d like to be yours for Valentine’s Day – just, please, no pink hearts….Time for nap. Let me know when we’re ready to go home.”
