“Hi, there! Step right up and meet me, Nica, an excellent grey tabby who loves people, also most other cats so long as they’re up for rumble and tumble and chase. I think I’m about a year old, but I’m sure I’m wiser than my years. I’m told I have the build of a lady wrestler – and I am a lady – and the mind of a German philosopher – except I’m funnier, and I seldom speak in passive verbs.”
“I am soft. I am friendly and mellow. I snuzzle and sleep and think, wake up and think some more. Please admire my stunning stripes. Nica doesn’t have stripes. She has Stripes. She has more Stripes than a Colonel, maybe even more than a General, and she says her Stripes are also prettier than theirs. Would you like to pet my distinctive grey Stripes? I would like it. Yes, I would!”
“Occasionally, I sing. And, no, I have no idea what my name means. I pronounce it ‘Nee-ka’. Maybe from an ancient Greek goddess? The woman next door is Dianna, after all. Or, maybe, I’m a trade association. Take your choice: National Independent Concessionaires Association, National Ice Carving Association, Northwest Intentional Communities Association, National Institute of Circus Arts, and more. Also Nica’s Cafe320 in Kansas City – didn’t see tuna or mockingbird on the menu, though. Am I fun? I am fun!”
“Did I mention that, in addition to my active personality, I am a pretty woman? You’ll notice me when you walk in? Just the right colors – all shades of grey, a thoughtful face. And when I move, you’ll se both grace and purpose, poise and authority. What else can I say? Let’s get to know each other. Let’s play. Let’s me, Nica, become your forever cat, Stripes and all. $120 – that’s what they say.”
