“Here’s the story: I’m a young orange tabby fellow, friendly orange tabby fellow, and I’m in charge of sniffing and going around, going in and out, out and in, and sniffing again. I look a lot like Jenga, but I am Shasta – and he is Jenga. He has pointy, ruffled ears; I don’t. I have Real Cat Ears.”
“I might be named for orange soda. I suppose, if you spilled a bottle of orange soda, it might be about my color. But I, personally, have decided that I am Shasta, for the mountain in California. It’s a good mountain. A majestic mountain, and I think of myself as quite majestic. I do. I am. And did you know that Mount Shasta is an active volcano? Be nice to me, even if the only eruptions I’ve done involve flying munchies.”
“I’m friendly. I’m fun. I prowl in your stuff. Look at this bag – all kinds of stuff in here. Smells of cats, too. Any cats in here? Now there’s a cat in here. Me! Shasta! Good-hearted, kind-footed, roaming, rambling Shasta, rambling around looking for my people. Don’t see them in your bag, rambling on, sniffing out, sniffing up, sitting down, and shaking my tail around.”
“Did I tell you about the Man Cave? Up there – that kennel – that’s the Man Cave. Right now, the shy couple is renting it, but we Orange Men still go to our Cave. We eat the munchies. We drink the water. The shy ones like us. We tell them, ‘The less shy you become, the more food you’ll get.’ It’s not true, but we want them to come out of the Cave and play with us. Then we want to go in the Cave and play poker. Every night at 9:00 PM.”
“Time to ramble on out of the Man Cave and do more investigating, sniffing, going in, going out. If I sit down here a minute or two and sniff your feet, will you find $120 and adopt me? I like people. People are fun – not quite as much fun as I am – but close. Take me home; offer Shasta his own Man Cave. No volcanic eruptions, promise!”
