“Hi, I am just the sweetest, cutest little girl kitten ever. I am Hobbs, and I say so. I’m probably not quite a year old, and I still know how to do the Winsome Kitten Look – you know the one you see on birthday cards, especially ones for children. I just have the face for it. I’ve been seen in blanket and quilt ads – also in catalogs with bath towels. I think I shall always be a kitten at heart.”
“I am Hobbs, no Calvin – and no “e”, either. Not at all related to Thomas Hobbes – the political philosopher. No, I’m not. He did politics. He did philosophy. He wrote books and taught at universities. I do none of those things. I do cuteness. Thomas was not cute. He had a pointy nose. I have pointy ears. I am cute.”
“Just look at me, and I purr. I am cuddly and huggable and soft. I am tabby-toned with excellent white feet. They are very white feet. I am told I was rescued from a Frogtown convenience store. The person who rescued me says that I fought off cats bigger than me who wanted to steal my food. So I’m a feisty little sweetheart – and proud of it. She also said that I opened doors and cupboards. Well, I was looking for mischief I might do! Hey, just adopt me – and childproof your house – the gadgets that keep small children out usually keep most cats out. But I’ll try, anyway.”
“I am Hobbs, no Calvin, and I am sweet, cute, winsome, and smart. The orange dudes out there say that, if I’ll just sit here and look cute and do my Winsome Kitten thing, I’ll get adopted. That you’ll come and find me and take me home. That you’ll bring $120, and we’ll go home, and I’ll sit on your blanket and be oh so cute with my little kitten heart.”
