“In the middle of Minnesota winter, I am one smart cat. I’ve named myself for one of very few places in the US that’s likely more warm than cold. And where it doesn’t rain a lot. Warm, dry – wouldn’t you be inclined to adopt someone who makes you think warm and dry? I hope so. Know what tomorrow’s forecast for Yuma is? 66 degrees. Above zero. Know what the forecast here is? Zero. Not above zero. Zero.”
“So stop over at Feline Rescue, and bask in the glowing, plush, furriness of Me – Yuma! Mow! Mow! That’s mostly all I have to say – occasionally – Mow! I’m a rather sandy tabby. If you’ve seen old Westerns, 3:10 to Yuma, Last Train to Yuma, Gunfight in Yuma, all that stuff, you’ll know that Yuma is pretty sandy. But I don’t keep horses, and I don’t ride them. No, I don’t.”
“Yuma – that’s me – is dignified and alert. I sit straight and tall. I watch things that move. Other cats, mops with pushing people, and every thing that’s out that window. Flying birds, cars, walking people. I like Fed-Ex trucks – bright colors on them, and they rumble.”
“I don’t fly around a lot like some of these girl cats. I am too dignified for that. I might sit in a person’s lap and be dignified. I might lie down all flat and stretched and pretend I’m a rug. Don’t step on Me!! I think a lot. When people sit and think and look out the window, they say they are meditating. Yuma says, ‘I am looking out the window. I am thinking.’”
“I know. The sign over there says that I’m a ‘stray’. I say, ‘No, I’m not. I’ve just been waiting a long time for the right people.’ I heard that this was the best place to come to find my people. The other cats said, ‘Yuma, whatever you do, don’t post yourself on Craig’s List. Just get to Feline Rescue, OK?’ So here I am, and guess what I’m doing? Waiting for you! Ready to go home! Bring $120, and let’s do it. I’m warm, dry and cuddly, and it’s going to be Zero out there.”
