About Madrone and Manzanito | |

“Here we are! The finest pair of almost black Cat Brothers you’ll ever see! We could be The Blues Brothers – except we’re black, almost. And, therein, lies our story. We’re going to stretch out on this blankie, right under the skylight, and let the sun shine in! What do you see? Yes, two exotic fellows – exactly the color of madrone and manzanita wood – almost black with a shade of red – and very shiny. Thus, our names and our nobility. We know that madrone trees and manzanita bushes don’t grow in Minnesota. But we charming Cat Brothers do, and you are going to love us for our color and our style!”
“When the sun goes down, we’re fine black cats, very black, and think black cat thoughts. But when the sun shines on us, we are Madrone and Manzanito – we know – the bush is manzanita – but I’m a guy – very guy – thus the “o”. Oh, just google it if you still don’t get it! The important thing is that we are two great Cat Brothers, and we want to be Your Cats!”
“We tell you honestly that we were pretty scared when we first came to Feline Rescue. Someone rescued us when we were just wee kittens and raised us well – but we never saw a place with so many other cats in our young lives. Yeow! Are these friends or foes? We don’t know. But we did some sniffing, and some of them sniffed back, and, pretty soon, we discovered we could play together! Woohoo! Let’s fly around the room and raise some fur!”
“I’m Madrone, and I declare myself to be the leader of the pack. You may pet me and adore me and admire my tufted lynx ears. I am smart, and I make all the decisions around here. Manzanito waits patiently for me to tell him what’s in, what’s out, and what should be eaten. Every now and then he picks up a toy on his own.”
“We are fine gentlemen – vaqueros from old California. We might have been panthers stalking through the scrub among the foothills. But now we are Cat Brothers – proud, solid, well-built Guys, and we want a real home with real people – and no stalking the hills any more. Our offer: for $230, both of us go home with you – forever and ever – and we lie in your sunny places and show off our shiny black – almost – fur.”
