“Say, ye wouldn’t be looking to join a great Irish band, would ye? How are you with a fiddle, a flute, a fife? Can ye play a good jig? Well, can ye carry a tune? I am Callaway – an excellent and classic tabby cat. I had me a great Irish band – three more tabbies and a red-headed lass – and we played all the weddings and funerals in suburban Ramsey County. Everybody loved us, but we played more funerals than weddings. And all the new folks in town didn’t do the Irish jigs. Oh, they come out for St. Patrick’s Day and pretend, but Callaway knows. So the bandleader is looking for a new career – House Cat. Sits in laps, doesn’t recite racy limericks, sleeps a lot.”

“I’m a sand-colored tabby, more sand than stripes. If I were in Africa, I suppose I’d be wild, and I’d be called a sand cat. Sand cats can blend into desert surrounds better than a sidewinder, but the only thing we have in common with snakes is that we both eat rodents. I would eat a rodent if it presented itself – yes, I would – but, mostly, I am just a mellow sand-colored fellow. I like naps and people who pet me. And I’m not terribly fond of rattlers. If I were thinking to hide in a pile of sand, I’d want to be sure one of them wasn’t in there with me.”

“Sad to say, I picked up the FeLV somewhere in my itinerant career. Some of those funerals we played were rather wild – too wild, I guess. So I’m looking to settle down with some real people and, maybe, a red-headed lady cat who also has the FeLV – that would be good.  Ready to become a kind, loving, affectionate indoor kind of guy. No more TNR – got one ear clipped, and I’d like to keep the other one.”

“So how about a retirement home for a young guy – maybe 2 – 4 years old? No fiddle, no flute, not even a tambourine. Just a nice warm lap – and a good ear for a guy who purrs in tune and on key. $120 – and Callaway is all yours – forever and ever. And, maybe, just maybe, I’ll sing a bit, ‘Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling, from glen to glen, and down the mountain side.’”

(I am FeLV positive and healthy. All this means is that I should either join other FeLV positive resident cats or be the only feline king of the household.)
