“Yo – hee! Yo-haw! We are still kittens, a teenage riot, and we are sister and brother, brother and sister. We run, we jump, and we talk. Mostly we talk silly tweenager cat talk, ‘Feed me! Feed me! Eek, help, there’s a squirrel out there! Feed us! Don’t feed the squirrel! Don’t let it in! Eek!”

“I am Belle; I am the tortie – lovely beige blended into my black fur. I talk more loudly than brother Ira – but not as constantly. Ira is a solid black guy – a few white hairs here and there – but, mostly, he’s black – a good, proud way to be for a cat. We think we were born outside, but our Mamma – she’s black like Ira – took us to places where two-leggeds gave us food. We are not feral – wild, yes, but not feral. We love people that we trust, and we are learning quickly to trust most of you.”

“We purr. In fact, Ira pretty much can’t stop purring. Pick him up and he nuzzles your hand and purrs. Then he purrs and nuzzles your arm. If a two-legged lets us out of our hut, we run all over and sniff everything. We know we’re cats. We say we’re pretty darn cute cats, too.”

“We stayed for awhile with the person in the house to which our Mamma took us. Mamma said, ‘There’s a cat person here. I heard it through the grapevine. Look cute and hungry.’ Well, we’re very good at that because we are cute and hungry. We think we’re 5 – 6 months old. We met a big black cat there. He liked us. He talked to us. He said he might be our great-grandfather. We hissed him – ‘cause that’s what cats do when they see someone who is bigger than they are. And he was bigger, even if he did like us!”
