Hi, I'm Inky . I've been an outdoor stray cat about as long as I can remember. I kind of liked the fresh air and freedom. But it was hard sometimes finding food. And the winters were brutal. I got by, until I went blind.

One day some people saw me by the side of a busy road. I seemed disoriented, they said. I tried to get away and walked right into a tree. I was taken to a shelter and then ended up with a feline rescue volunteer.

I couldn't walk straight and could  hardly stand. I just fell over. I bit and swatted at the people who tried to help me, and soon they realized it was because I couldn't see them. At the vet office they said I was in bad shape. I was thin, weak, blind, FIV-positive, flea ridden, and missing most of my teeth. Maybe I didn't stand a chance. But the volunteer took me home to see what good food and a little love could do. Turns out, it can do a lot.

At first I was a challenge. I'd grab at anything that came near me. I made a mess with food and water. And I usually missed the litter box. But I loved to eat. After having been so hungry, food alone was worth living for. So they kept bringing it to me.

Soon I figured out the routine. They bring me food. They don't hurt me. They clean my litter box. It doesn't hurt me. They sweep the floor, and no one hurts me. So now I seldom have to lunge or bite at things that move. I know I'm safe.

I've put on weight and gained back my strength. I've figured out the litter box. And I've also figured out that I love petting. I even purr and roll at my foster person's feet (the same feet that I used to bite when they moved across the room!). You just have to move slow.

I'm ready to find a home now, if I can. I need a safe environment and a predictable routine. I look old and rough. I'm not going to get my sight back. Or my teeth. Even my hair doesn't all grow back. I come "as-is". An old guy who just needs some love, healthy food, and a safe place to call home for the time I have left (and now that I've finally come inside, I plan to stick around a while).
